Is the Earth Round? - The Bible says it before man discovered it.
Heb 11:1-3
11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
2 For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.
3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.(NKJV)
Yesterday we spoke on Genesis 1:1 -
I feel pressed to give a little more into the mustard seed of faith.
In verse 3 of Hebrews We are told by faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.
Till this day - man in general has not been able to explain in logical terms or means how it began. How there was nothing and something was created.
The Bible tells us clearly that the world was spoken into existence.
Ps 33:6-7
6 By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.
7 He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap; He lays up the deep in storehouses. (NKJV)
Even though the Bible tells us by the voice of God the world all of its existence was created, We need to accept that portion by faith.
The world was wonderfully designed to display the beauty of Our Father in Heaven. Everything created displays God's existence. We just need to accept God spoke it and it was done.
Instinctive behaviors from animals to care for their young, how trees know to wither and loose their leaves in the fall to live again in the spring.
I can go off on behaviors of man - however it is not about the shame that we do. it is about the love and the detailed affection God has written in His creation to remind us of Him in all things.
Why do we have these creative abilities if we evolved? We have a built in desire to create ourselves. Children playing displays that as there is a multi-billion dollar industry in toys that do that. The top selling games today - Simcity, Mind craft, and so on now have children creating within the games. We have a natural desire to build - create and it shows even from birth. A new born learns, discovers from using their 5 senses. They are little scientist learning about everything around them.
Now just a quick short point -

10 He drew a circular horizon on the face of the waters, At the boundary of light and darkness. (NKJV)
The Bible recorded the earth was round in the book of Job a book whose true date is debatable.
Rabbinic tradition ascribes it to Moses, but scholars generally agree that it was written between the 7th and 4th centuries BCE, with the 6th century BCE as the most likely period for various reasons.
They estimate it to around 600 BCE. That is 600 years Before Christ.
Interesting enough -
It has actually been known that the Earth was round since the time of the ancient Greeks. I believe that it was Pythagoras who first proposed that the Earth was round sometime around 500 B.C. As I recall, he based his idea on the fact that he showed the Moon must be round by observing the shape of the terminator (the line between the part of the Moon in light and the part of the Moon in the dark) as it moved through its orbital cycle. Pythagoras reasoned that if the Moon was round, then the Earth must be round as well. After that, sometime between 500 B.C. and 430 B.C., a fellow called Anaxagoras determined the true cause of solar and lunar eclipses - and then the shape of the Earth's shadow on the Moon during a lunar eclipse was also used as evidence that the Earth was round.
Around 350 BC, the great Aristotle declared that the Earth was a sphere (based on observations he made about which constellations you could see in the sky as you travelled further and further away from the equator) and during the next hundred years or so, Aristarchus and Eratosthenes actually measured the size of the Earth!
So Before man had any knowledge of the earth being round the historical record of Job recorded the earth being circular (round) hundreds of years before the discovery.
Now Job was not described as a scholar - he was a wealthy man with enormous flocks and a large family.
This is yet another mystery that defies the very scientific data in historical events.
So if we are to believe in science - then we must accept that somethings are unexplained. If we do not then we claim we already know all things. There would be no need to experiment.
The simple point that I wan to make in this topic is that before we knew the earth was round scientifically, our answer to that question was already given in the book of Job hundreds of years before we (man) found the answer.
That is clearly one of the reasons I have come to believe in the Bible. It has truths that were not proven till hundreds and even thousands of years later. Maybe we should be looking scientifically more into the data or DNA of God for our answers in our lives instead of science.
Maybe we should bring our questions to God and His Word and then research that answer scientifically. After-all - 350 BC we discovered what was already truth according to Job in 600 BC. Maybe we should take the credit from Pythagoras and place it to Job.
The Bible - The "Supposed Word of God" - when it delivers truths hundreds of years before science. God is not keeping his existence from us, He is showing us He is in EVERYTHING.
So I encourage you to take the leap of faith - It is truly smaller than the size of a pebble. Look for your answers in God first and you will find He has already provided it.
